I wanted to be Catholic
because of
Donna Melville,
great niece of Herman,
but it’s complicated if you aren’t
inculcated with dogma
from birth.
Better these types of things
creep up on you,
pile up over years like so many sins.
I liked the rosary,
the cult of Mary,
I wanted the redemption,
the wafter & the wine.
Donna took it all at face value,
believed in the song & the dance,
got preggers right outta high school,
died in a car crash at 28.
I want to ask her,
is it true Jesus saves?
