“The Shrill” by Nicole Rigets
Answers sparring with doubt,
heavy padding masks the will.
The voice cut at the neck,
floats above a shrill.
Too many breaks in a china day.
Your eyes memorizing both sides,
Your fingertips pause above the jagged edges.

This is such a cool poem & I adore this image, an orange explosion of tulips!
So effective, “your fingertips pause above the jagged edges.” You hit it Nic!!

“Too many breaks in a china day” is brilliant. As is the rest of the poem, but that line resonates with me.

Thank you Alex. When that line broke into my consciousness I was excited and able to quickly capture it… glad I wasn’t driving.
