“It Doesn’t Make Sense” by Vicki Batkin

So much disparity among us
Not much sense in being tawdry
…
To me, at least
And,
Ringo turns 70 this week.
I don’t like the art of noise
Nor the openness of silence
I do like the honesty of both
However, it doesn’t take much
To heap a cheap man!
All these thoughts
Jam my brain
How could it make sense
To the common man?
I’d give you the privilege
To walk inside my brain
But I’ll reserve that
For my adoring husband
It’s getting foggy now
It wasn’t when we started
I think I should take a nap
Maybe it’ll stir things up
And land in a dream
How can it be…
Ringo turns 70 this week?

I love this, Vic! The randomness of it makes it that much more profound. Fantastic!

“the art of noise – the openess of silence – the honesty of both” wonderful stuff, Vicky. Using your wonder at Ringo turning 70 – like the old folksong: where have all the flowers gone, long time passing…
and placing it into the context of a woman in her later years, a woman who has the confidence to reserve her mind territory for the one man whose trust is well established – then the simple statement, I think I should take a nap – I love it. This poem is a nice reflection of growing older using the light conversation that commonly fills our minds.

Hey Vicki,
What does make sense in this crazy, mixed up world? Ah, but the love of your husband is the saving grace. So bring on 50, 60, 70, 80, dance naked in your 90′s amd the world of your creative writing friends will rise and shout, what a woman, what a woman, what a wild and crazy woman!
xoxo

I love this poem Vicki–it’s very true to your style of writing.
How is it possible that Ringo’s 70?
I guess we’re all getting old.
